Canadian Polish Congress President Endorses Liberal Team Polonia

Brampton – Canadian Polish Congress President Władysław Lizoń today endorsed Brampton West Liberal candidate Andrew Kania, Mississauga-Streetsville Liberal candidate Bonnie Crombie and Etobicoke Centre candidate and Liberal MP Borys Wrzesnewskyj ― the “Liberal Team Polonia”.

“I am confident that through my support of Andrew Kania, Bonnie Crombie and Borys Wrzesnewskyj, our new ‘Liberal Team Polonia’, that the issues of importance to the Canadian Polish Congress and Polish Canadians will be aggressively advanced and it is for this reason that I endorse this team,” stated Canadian Polish Congress President Władysław Lizoń.

The “Liberal Team Polonia” is committed to battling for, and achieving, the following for the Polish Canadian community:

a Canadian trade mission to Poland
establishing a process to allow Polish undocumented workers to achieve landed immigrant status
introducing pensions for Polish World War II veterans living in Canada who fought with the Allies

“I bring a solid understanding of the concerns and needs of the Polish Canadian community. Both my parents immigrated to Canada after World War II and belong to the generation of Polish immigrants that helped to build this great country and who established many of the religious, cultural and educational institutions that serve our community to this very day. From my parents, I received a deep appreciation of my Polish heritage which I translated into active involvement with St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish, the Knights of Columbus and other Polish Canadian social, educational and sport organizations. As part of a new Liberal government, I will bring our community’s concerns to the forefront,” said Andrew Kania, Liberal Candidate for Brampton West.

"I am a Polish-Ukrainian Canadian and I know first hand how Polish immigrants have helped this nation prosper and grow. My grandfather, Jozef Sega, was born in Lubaczow, Poland and fought in a Polish Division of the French Army during WWII. Along with my grandmother Eva Hawrysz and my mother Veronica, they moved to Canada and for the opportunities Canada presented. When I am elected to Parliament on October 14th, I will work steadfastly to promote the policies that will enable the Polish Canadian community to be recognized fully for its contributions in building this great country of ours," states Bonnie (Sawarna) Crombie, Liberal Candidate for Mississauga-Streetsville.”

“I am proud of my Polish and Ukrainian heritage and after being elected in 2004 I re-established the dormant Canada-Poland Parliamentary Friendship Group and working with the Polish Canadian community and the Polish Embassy, built it into one of the most active and high profile friendship groups on Parliament Hill. As well, in 2004 I led the charge in Parliament to remove visitor visa requirements for Poland,” said Wrzesnewskyj. Wrzesnewskyj introduced a motion to lift visitor visas for Poland and the six other new EU-member states in 2004. He re-introducing the motion again in 2006, and consistently raised the issue in House of Commons debates, committees and through the tabling of numerous petitions signed by members of the Polish Canadian community.

The Liberal Party of Canada and its Liberal Caucus has demonstrated its commitment to issues of importance to the Polish Canadian community. By electing the “Liberal Team Polonia” (Andrew Kania, Bonnie Crombie and Borys Wrzesnewskyj) the Polish Canadian community will have an even stronger voice in Ottawa.
