CONSERVATIVES SLASH 300 CANADIAN JOBS
For immediate release:
OTTAWA—Liberal Critic for Crown Corporations MP Bonnie Crombie calls out the government
for their privatization of Canada Post’s call centres in Fredericton, Antigonish, Ottawa,
Winnipeg and Edmonton.
Last week, the government announced its plan to privatize and outsource call centres and slash
300 Canadian jobs. “This is another step in the Conservative’s underhanded plan to deregulate
and privatize our Crown Corporations beginning with Canada Post,” said Mrs. Crombie.
The call centres will obviously be outsourced to overseas markets. “This guarantees 300 Canadian
jobs lost as a result of this announcement,” commented Mrs. Crombie.
The announcement to privatize call centres also comes on the heels of the government inserting
a measure to deregulate Canada Post into C-9, the Budget Implementation Bill. “Finding
an amendment in the Budget affecting Canada Post is underhanded and blatant trickery. This is
another example of the Conservative Party’s lack of accountability and iron curtain transparency
at its best,” added Mrs. Crombie.
“The Conservatives have made their plans to deregulate and privatize Canada Post vividly clear.
It was a sad week for Canada Post and for Canadians,” concluded Mrs. Crombie.
