OTTAWA – Mississauga–Streetsville Member of Parliament, Bonnie Crombie, is hosting another Town Hall Meeting on Thursday, November 12, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. at the Vic Johnston Community Centre, 355Church Street, Streetsville.
Bonnie has invited her colleague, the Honourable Marlene Jennings, P.C, M.P. for the riding of Notre-Dame-de-Grâce - Lachine from the Montreal area. On June 17, 2009, Ms. Jennings was named to the Employment Insurance Working Group.
Today’s Employment Insurance system is inequitable and in need of repair. The establishment of this working group has broken an impasse in Parliament. Only through consensus can we achieve meaningful reform quickly - which is why Ms. Jennings agreed to work together in good faith to develop EI reform proposals.
Mr. Ignatieff and Prime Minister Harper agreed to form a working group consisting of three appointees each. Also joining Ms. Jennings were Mike Savage, M.P. for Dartmouth - Cole Harbour and Kevin Chan, Mr. Ignatieff’s Director of Policy.
Bonnie has also invited Carol Elizabeth Boire, LL.B, Employment Legal Counsel. Ms. Boire’s practice is concentrated in the area of Employment Law including Wrongful Dismissal Litigation, Employment Standards Branch Complaints, Human Rights Complaints, Workplace Safety & Insurance Complaints and Employee Terminations.
“I am delighted to have Ms. Jennings and Ms. Boire join me to share their thoughts with us on November 12th. This is a wonderful opportunity for the residents of Mississauga - Streetsville to express their opinions and concerns regarding the Employment Insurance system,” added Bonnie.
