Bonnie Crombie to Mississauga-Streetsville
Dear Friends, Cher Amis,
The leaves have turned red, and so has Mississauga-Streetsville! The people have spoken and the voters are always right.
Tonight in Mississauga-Streetsville we have returned the riding back to where it belongs -- with the Liberal Party.
Across the country we are seeing that voters are not happy with the direction of the Harper government and they want a strong opposition to keep them honest.
And that is exactly what we will do. We will work hard everyday to keep this government from moving onto its right wing agenda that has been rejected by voters in Mississauga-Streetsville and by voters across the country.
I am humbled and honored to be elected as your Member of Parliament here in Mississauga-Streetsville and I intend to work hard everyday to continue to earn your trust.
I was elected as a Liberal and I guarantee that I will not betray your trust and cross the floor to another party because, as I have told you before, “I am a Liberal of conviction not of convenience”.
When people cast their ballots they make a sacred trust with the person that they elect. I will not betray your trust.
We have many priorities here in Mississauga which will become my priorities when I get to Ottawa: creating jobs, lowering taxes, investing in our infrastructure and our public transit, in our health care, in our newcomers, in our seniors, in our child care, and in the environment.
I will work hard every day to deliver those things that the people of Mississauga want and need.
I will work with Mayor Hazel McCallion, City Council and the Region of Peel.
I will work with my colleagues in Ottawa, especially my Leader, Stephane Dion who fought a bold campaign. And my provincial counterparts in Queens Park, especially Bob Delaney to make sure that Mississauga gets its fair share.
On the national stage our first priority is restoring prosperity and addressing the economic mismanagement that has been created by Stephen Harper and his policies.
We need the help of people from all parties – in a minority government -- to get Canada out of this mess.
That is job one. Fixing the economy.
It's time to put aside petty squabbling and personal attacks, which we saw too much of in the last Parliament – and work together for the good of our great country. We need to restore decorum in the House of Commons.
We need to get through this crisis together and make a better future for our children and our grandchildren.
Starting tomorrow we need a new approach to politics in Canada – one that is inclusive.
I’d like to reach out to all those people who worked hard for the other candidates and who voted for other parties.
As your Member of Parliament -- I am now your representative, regardless of your politics.
I am now the representative of ALL of the people of Mississauga-Streetsville and I will be your voice in Ottawa – on the national political stage.
I look forward to working with all of you in the future.
There is an old saying – “today is the beginning of the rest of your life.”
And for me – what a beginning!!
Together we can continue to make Mississauga-Streetsville and Canada the best place to live in the world…
